Chania is the north-west area of the island of Crete and a very popular tourist destination. The entire region will leave you breathless. The sandy beaches, mountain villages, hammocks on the beach, pure nature, the Byzantine monasteries scattered throughout the island create a fanstactic fund for exploration. There are many tourist resorts, small towns and charming villages that you can visit during a visit to Crete.

Today we present the resort of Spilia near Chania with its attractions and three beautiful villages close it: Kolimbari, Ravdouha and Rodopi.


The charming village resort of Spilia has a traditional architecture and luxurious vegetation and liest at only 4 km from Kolimbari, a popular tourist resort and at 30 km to west from Chania. In the area are many beautiful monasteries, including the Church of Panagia Mirtidiotissa and Archangel Mhail. Another landmark is the Cave of St. John the Hermit, located 1 km from Spilia. Inside the cave is a small church dedicated to St. John.

Kolimbari is a seaside village on the road from Chania to Kissamos, at about 25 km to west from the town of Chania, close to the village resort of Spilia. This is a nice village that has developed in recent years due to the flow of tourists. With taverns everywhere along the beach and small hotels, Kolimbari is a quiet resort for families. A great place to visit is the Monastery Hodegetria Kolimbari (Moni Gonia), which datesback from the 18th century, and it is located on the edge of the Chania Gulf, offering a great view of the sea. The monastery was burned to the ground in 1645 by the Turks, but was rebuilt. In the Second World War it was the center of resistance against the Germans. Today houses an impressive ecclesiastical museum and a rich library.

Rodopi is one of the villages west of Chania, near the village resort of Spilia and at just 5 km from Kolimbari. It is located on the Rodopos Peninsula and near the Gramvoussa Peninsula. This village has only a few inhabitants and tourism is hardly developed. The nearest tourist facilities are found in Kolimbari. Rodopi has a traditional architecture, narrow streets, stone houses and beautiful monasteries. The surrounding landscape is luxurious and wild.

Ravdouha is a small mountain village near the village resort of Spilia, at just 5 km from the fishing village of Kolimbari in western Chania. It has few inhabitants and most of the homes are old and made of stone. The surrounding nature includes pin and olive groves, and is a small secluded beach nearby.
