Skiathos is a very welcoming and beautiful Greek island. It is approximately 12 km long and 6 km wide. It played a very important role over time in Greek history. The scenery is complemented by several other nearby islands that worth visiting, including Tsougara, Tsougriaki, Maragos, Arkos, Trounlonisi and Aspronisi. These islands are a dream destination for those who want to be away from the noise and crazyness of cities, and the crowded beaches of the main island. Although Skiathos is very small, occupying a total area of ​​54 square kilometers with the adjacent islands, you have enough things to visit.

Tourist attractions in the capital city

Chora is the capital and the only town on the Island of Skiathos. It is built as an amphitheater, on a verdant hill. On the streets of the capital you will find numerous churches, chapels, white houses in traditional style. Some churhces that worth mentioning is the Cathedral of Chora, the Agios Fanarios Church, the Agios Nikolas Church, the Monastery dedicated to Our Lady of Kounistras and the Evangelistra Monastery. In the old part of the city you will find some charming winding streets and you can admire some impressive residences.

The capital of Skiatos is a city that knew how to keep the traditional style even though every summer thousands of tourists come to take advantage of everything it has to offer. In port, to the left, the first things you will notice are the old shipyards. There is also a lake very close to this.

Having fun in Skiathos

You can practice water sports on many beaches of the Island of Skiathos. For example the Megali Ammos beach, near Chora, the Koukounaries and Agia Paraskevi. In Chora there is a tennis club and you can ride as well near Koukounaries. On the island you will also find a diving center. In the evening are held concerts and traditional Greek dance performances at the outdoor theater in Bourtzi.

Nightlife in Chora is extremely active, especially in peak season, and most of discos are located on the “Disco Strip” at the end of the new port, towards the airport.

Most of the shops are on the main street, the Papadiamandis Street. Here you will find clothes, souvenirs, leather belts, jewelry and many others. If you really want to buy something new, go to monasteries where you can buy bottles of wine made by monks.
