The resort village of Stalida in Crete, also known as Stalis is a beautiful and popular tourist destination located in the northern part of Crete between the city of Malia and the city of Hersonissos. The village has visitors from many European countries, but it is a perfect place for anybody that desires to spend the holiday in a quiet, relaxed, but lively place with sandy beaches, bars and taverns.

The intensive tourist development of the area resulted in the cities of Hersonissos, Malia and Stalida resulted in a coastal resort of about 10 km long that is full of hotels and apartments.

The establishment of Stalida

The tourism of the island increased dramatically in the 1980s, when Stalida also became a popular holiday resort in the eastern side Crete. Until then it was simply the beach where the residents of Mohos, the village on the hill south of Stalida, spent their summer holidays.

Having fun in Stalida

There is not even a central market in the resort village of Stalida in Crete; you will find only a street with shops, taverns and hotels aligned in both sides.

Stalida is different than the neighboring towns of Hersonissos and Malia, because it doesn’t have the same wild nightlife as them. Stalida is more suitable for family holidays, but if you want to dance, you can visit Hersonissos and Malia at any time, because they are nearby.

This doesn’t mean that Stalida has no bars or cafes. There are many of cafes and bars along the beach in you want to have fun, but the place is generally quieter than the neighboring resorts. Many people consider this an advantage rather than a disadvantage.

There are many restaurants and taverns in the resort village of Stalida as well as tourist shops, travel agencies for tours, car and motorcycle rental agencies and, of course, mini market.

There are regular buses from Stalida to Heraklion, Nikolaos Hersonissos and  Gouves to the west and Malia and Agios to the east, therefore you can easily visit many towns and villages along the north coast of Crete.

The beautiful beach of Stalida

The beach of Stalida in Crete is a beautiful sandy beach divided into two sections. The water deepens gradually, so that young children are free to enjoy the sea.

The beach at Stalida has lifeguards, umbrellas and sun loungers. Some restaurants have special offers which combine beach umbrella and deck chair with lunch or drinks. The water sports lovers will find anything they want without any difficulty.
