Crete is an extended island that attracts a large variety of tourists for different reasons. The island offers many possibilities for excursions, you can taste the traditionally prepared dishes in small taverns with spectacular view. You can enjoy the small and intimate beaches and the modern luxury resorts, the beautiful harbors and the rich nightlife.

One of the most important tourist sites is the Knossos Palace in Crete with a labyrinth plan that gave birth to the myth of the Minotaur. Other important archaeological sites are in Phaistos and Gortys.


We recommend visiting the old Venetian town of Chania, the Venetian Castle in Rethymno and the Samaria Cave. We present you some other famous tourist attractions of Crete from every region.


The region of Chania offers a wide range of beaches of sand and gravel, isolated gulfs bathed by the crystal clear water of the sea. Among the most notable beaches of the area we mention the Golden Beach, the Agia Marina the Georgoupoli Beach and the Stalos Beach. The city of Chania is divided into the new city with shops, business centers and offices, and the old town built around the picturesque Venetian port with cobblestone streets, and the Archaeological Museum, which are among the top tourist attractions in Crete.

The region of Heraklion is rich in picturesque villages located at high altitudes, with a fantastic view of the mountains and the surrounding hills. Two of these villages are Ano Vianos and Epano Arhanes. The many seaside villages have spectacular beaches such as Limenas Hersonissou and Malia. The Matala beach is famous for its turquoise water, as well as the Tsoutsouros, the Analipsi and the Amoudara beach. Most of the beaches offer sun beds, umbrellas for rent and water sports possibilities.

The city of Heraklion is the capital of the island and has many beautiful tourist attractions. It has buildings from the 16th and 17th centuryI located in the area of the Liberty Square and the old port. The city has the biggest port of the island. Tourists are advised to visit the Archaeological Museum of History and Ethnography. There you can also visit Myrtia with the Museum of Nikos Kazantzakis who is the author of the famous novel “Zorba the Greek”, the old Hania harbor, and the Phalassarna beaches.


The region of Lassithi has several towns and resorts on the Mediterranean coastline, offering multiple accommodation options. One of the most spectacular villages in the region is Tzermiado, Elounda, Krista and Sissi. The impressive beach of Vai has about  5000 palm trees, azure sand and azure waters. Other beaches of the Lassithi region include Makrigialos, Istrios, Pahia Ammos and Hrissi.

The region of Rethymno in Crete offers many spectacular tourist attractions as beaches and traditional Greek villages on the mountain peaks where you can really feel the traditional Greek way of life. The region has a number of idyllic beaches and isolated coves. Among the most popular beaches we mention Preveli with emerald waters, fine sand and palm trees, Agia Galini, Perivolia and Platanias. The most beautiful villages in the region are: Anogia, Agia Galini, Plakias and Rethymno of course.
